The quote itself is fused onto ceramic. Handmade in the U.K., this piece is initially fired to 1150 degrees centigrade then two coats of transparent and bronze glaze is applied. The piece is fired twice more to fuse the decal.
Frida Kahlo was a famous artist and feminist icon who endured much pain throughout her life due to a tragic bus accident in her native Mexico when she was 18. She was bedridden for some time and taught herself to paint. She was married to the artist, Diego Rivera, a tumultuous relationship by all accounts. Somewhat eclipsed by her husband during life, her art gained momentum in later years and is highly prized today along with her wit and intelligence. This quote is one of my personal favorites.
