Definitely one-of-a-kind statement piece, stunning and unique, this pendant employs several techniques to bring this southwestern scene to life. A sand cast saguaro cactus adorns one side of the bail with a setting sun in the form of a sterling silver ring behind it. A coordinating turquoise cab is set in the fused sterling silver landscape and a prickly pear cactus adorns the other side of this substantial bail. The woven real leather cord forms the necklace with two hand crafted sterling silver end caps attaching to the bail.
The pendant itself encases a truly gorgeous azurite / malachite cabochon I picked up from a wonderful little shop in Santa Fe, NM, Earthfire Gems Gallery and is surrounded by a fused sterling silver frame. Because of the fusing process, this exact style can never be repeated! The cabochon is an oval with a high dome and is in lush swirls of rich greens against a background of dark blue.
Fusing sterling silver produces a very earthy and dynamic look - the sterling must be heated to the point of melting and the results can only be influenced by control of the torch.
