Sterling silver ring with a red Rosarita freeform stone.
Rosarita is a unique by-product of the gold refining processes in Alaska in the 60s and 70s. Beach sand was smelted for its gold content and the slag by-product was Rosarita, in marvelous reds and yellows, essentially a gold-infused glass. The base material is silica (or quartz particles) mixed with gold at high temperatures. The resulting cabochons are of rich hues sometimes with dark striations.
